The discipleship process is just that, a process. It is not something that happens in a moment of conversion. It actually starts before and continues long after conversion. Effective evangelism will include discipleship.

The KJV below actually says to go and teach all nations instead of what other translations say: “go and make disciples.” I only bring that up to add emphasis to verse 20 which says we, as disciples, should be actively “teaching them to observe all things” that Jesus has commanded us.

Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 28:16-20

These verses bring up some tough questions we should ask ourselves:

• Are you observing all things Jesus taught?
• Do you even know all things Jesus taught?
• Are you teaching others to observe these things?
