How to Have Life Eternal
Jesus defines life eternal as knowing God and knowing Jesus Christ:
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
John 17:3
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (1 John 5:20 KJV)
How To Have Life Eternal
Romans 10:9-10 says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead that you will be saved. For with the heart, man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth, he makes confession unto salvation. Below is a sample prayer of salvation:
Prayer of Salvation:
I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised him from the dead. I believe that the Scripture is true and I am now made right with God. Hallelujah! I am saved!
Spirit, Soul, and Body: (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Begin learning about your born-again spirit, your soul which is simply your mind, will, and emotions, and your body-flesh. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
- God says that you are His righteousness in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21, 2 Peter 1:1)
- You are a new creation in your spirit (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- Now your born-again spirit trumps what you have done physically (Galatians 6:15)
- Renew your mind by the washing of the Word (Ephesians 5:26, 1 Peter 1:23, Romans 12:2)
- Examine yourself and simply repent when needed (2 Corinthians 13:5, Revelation 2:5-7)
So, now you get to choose what you feed your mind (Philemon 1:6). You can renew your mind by the washing of the word (Ephesians 5:26). Or you can continue to sow into your flesh by staying conformed to the world (Romans 12:2). Because self-righteous religion is from the enemy, it is filled with guilt, shame, and condemnation (1 Timothy 3:6-7, Romans 8:1).
Believe and Receive Life Eternal
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them]. (Mark 11:24 KJV)
What Does It Mean To Be Saved and Have Life Eternal?
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 5:24
What If I Don’t Believe in Jesus or Eternal Life?
Ask God to reveal Himself to you. He already knows if you have doubt and unbelief and everything else. In Mark 9:22-24, a man asked Jesus to heal his son that was possessed by a demon. Then, Jesus told the man that anything is possible if you can believe. The man told Jesus that he believed. Then, he asked Jesus to help his unbelief!
Talk with God like you talk to a friend.
Ask Him to reveal Himself and His ways to you. Then look for it to happen. Check out these discipleship materials and don’t give up. If you are curious about God and want to know more, it is because He is drawing you.
Finally, there is a lot of confusion in the church. Some people don’t let the Bible get in the way of what they believe. Look for people who are living the abundant life Jesus came for us to have. You can tell by their fruit (Matt 12:33, Galatians 5:22-23). Read the Bible. Study the Bible. Then meditate on what God says in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:15-17). Ask God to explain it to you. He will (Luke 24:45-47)!
Believe on the Lord Jesus
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
They said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
They spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
He took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
When he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
Acts 16:30-34
Justified From All Things
But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. {Act 13:37 KJV}

Be it known unto you therefore, men [and] brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: {Act 13:38 KJV}
And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. {Act 13:39 KJV}
God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus preached (John 3:16) the Gospel, the forgiveness of sins for the whole world.
Just If I’d Never Sinned
The Gospel is the “almost too good to be true news” that anyone can believe on Jesus and be justified from sin or “Just as if I’d never sinned.”
Reconciliation is How to Have Life Eternal
God came down to reconcile us to Himself (John 17:3) and to give back to us what the enemy had stolen! (See “In the Beginning“) Notice in John 10:10 that the enemy comes only to steal, to kill, and to destroy, without any qualifications or permissions requested! But Jesus comes that we “might” have life.
Believe and Receive (Mark 11:24)
This is an invitation from a loving Father who will not force Himself on His children. We get to choose life by submitting to God or negating (Hebrews 2:3) for ourselves the ultimate sacrifice that God gave! We then choose to allow the enemy to continue to steal from us, to kill us and our family, and to destroy our lives and everything and everyone we hold dear through deception (Revelation 20:3)! It is your choice!
