YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE
You’ll Never Walk Alone is a song recorded by countless artists. The lyrics speak to hearts, as it spoke to mine. I knew this song was the next article because it appeared before me when I was searching for another song; it brought tears to my eyes.
INSPIRATION
The story of the song and its association with Liverpool the team and the city, as well as many other footballing institutions, dates back to the 1960s. You’ll Never Walk Alone was written by Oscar Hammerstein II and composed by Richard Rodgers for their musical Carousel, which was released in the USA in 1945.
You’ll Never Walk Alone is sung to the protagonist Billy Bigelow’s daughter after her dad has passed away during a botched robbery in the musical. The lyrics and the tone intend to offer words of conciliation to inspire her to keep going.
Football and musical! Interesting foundation for a song that touched the heart of millions since 1945!
Now that we know its origin, let’s WALK through the lyrics to grasp the meaning of the words!
LYRICS ARE POWERFUL WORD TOOLS
Therefore, lyrics are powerful WORD tools used to evoke emotions. They make us laugh, remind us of a time/person, jump for joy, or cry. This song reminded me that The Holy Spirit is with me 24×7 – every hour of my day. He lives inside of me. He knows when I am awake; He knows when I am asleep. And that connection took me on a journey through the WORD on the word NEVER.
NEVER: at no time in the past or future; on no occasion; not ever.
To clarify, the word NEVER means NEVER.
So how can this be? In our physical body, we can WALK ALONE. But GOD knew this, so HE gave believers THE HOLY SPIRIT to walk with them in the spirit. As a BELIEVER, we are three parts > SPIRIT, Soul and Body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE means the HOLY SPIRIT will ALWAYS WALK with us in our spirit!
Heb 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have; for he hath said, I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE THEE. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
WORDS OF CONCILIATION
- When you walk through a storm
- Hold your head up high
- And don’t be afraid of the dark
Isa 41:10 KJV – [10] Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness
- At the end of the storm
- Is a golden sky
- And the sweet, silver song of a lark
- Walk on through the wind,
- Walk on through the rain,
- Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Eph 3:20 KJV – [20] Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us
- Walk on with hope in your heart
- And you’ll never walk alone
- You’ll never walk alone
Mar 11:23 KJV – [23] For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
1Co 3:16 KJV – [16] Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
DWELLETH IN YOU
What a concept! It must be taken by FAITH because we don’t feel him move in or moving around. But HE IS THERE because the WORD says HE IS. What does DWELLEEH mean? Habitation; place of residence; abode.
THE MOMENT WE BELIEVE
To every believer, the moment they believe, the Spirit comes and indwells. When you go to some ungodly place, you are not going to check GOD at the door. You take him wherever you go. You cannot check Him wherever you think it’s not fit for Him to be, so you’d better be careful where you go. Because this body is the temple of the indwelling Holy Spirit and He comes the moment we believe. Les Feldick
Because “HE DWELLETH in YOU,” WE ARE NEVER ALONE. God knows our thoughts, every place we go and everything we do. BECAUSE HE’S in our HEART. Now that can be a comforting thought!
In the Old Testament, God dwelled in the TEMPLE. The presence of God in the Shekinah Glory came down into the man-made Temple. And just like the Shekinah Glory came into Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem, The Holy Spirit comes into us. In the New Testament, God dwells in our HEART.
1Co 6:19 KJV – [19] What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
THUS, WE ARE NEVER ALONE!
AND IF THE WORD says it, we have to believe He is DWELLING IN US.
Rom 8:26 KJV – [26] Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Infirmities are weaknesses. Areas in our lives that need strength. God can strengthen us in areas of our infirmities. He strengthens us because is always with US!
Intercession means the action of intervening on behalf of another. Sometimes we just need to be quiet and let the Holy Spirit commune with us. To allow Him to intercede for us.
And this takes me back to the book of JOB and when he sought the counsel of three friends. My current course at Charis Bible College is Relationship with God – What about Job? I learned the NECESSITY to choose GODLY COUNSEL over those who are not versed in the WORD. I learned that PAUL was the perfect example of GODLY COUNSEL. He was WORLDLY to the max (murderer) prior to JESUS entering his life…
Rom 8:27 KJV – [27] And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.
Searcheth the HEARTS. We cannot search each other’s HEARTS. But God can! That’s a concept that we cannot understand. But the WORD said it is TRUE.
THE TRINITY
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
DOES THIS LEAVE OUT JESUS?
NO! It involves God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit. The HOLY SPIRIT intercedes on our behalf and the SON intercedes on our behalf to the Father. It’s just fantastic!
WHEN WE WALK THROUGH THE STORM >> THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WITH US.
Hence storms are part of life; everyone experiences them at some time in their lives. But sometimes the STORM comes from a decision WE MADE without contemplating the results. And then we don’t take it to the HOLY SPIRIT, we take it to a live person for counsel. Our first response should be to ask THE HOLY SPIRIT!!! But others need to SPEAK with a live person.
He was WORLDLY to the max (murderer) prior to JESUS entering his life…
But then he became the Apostle Paul who spent three years learning from Jesus and the rest of his life teaching others GODLY COUNSEL.
Given these points, when storms come with wind and rain, take it to the Holy Spirit. If you need counsel, find a person who is a MATURE CHRISTIAN who lives a GODLY life.
YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE
As has been noted, we need to remember that The Holy Spirit is always with us because He is in us. When the storms of life come our way, we need to get DOWN ON OUR KNEES and find Jesus. He is the answer to all our needs.
In conclusion, accepting the HOLY SPIRIT into our lives requires that WE ASK HIM. He will not go where he is not invited. Many religions DO NOT ACKNOWLEGE The Holy Spirit as part of the Trinity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit > they are ONE. Sad to say, these religions are STEALING, KILLING and DESTORYING a great GIFT from GOD and the personal sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luk 11:10, 13 KJV – [10] For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. … [13] If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
SOONER OR LATER
We will come to the conclusion that WE DO NOT NEED TO WALK ALONE THROUGH OUR STORMS. Once we accept the Holy Spirit, we will NEVER WALK ALONE. Our life with the Holy Spirit starts with PRAYER … excerpt from Living in Balance of Faith and Grace by Andrew Wommack.
Father, I recognize my need for Your power to understand Your Word and to live this new life. I desire to receive Your revelation knowledge. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit. By faith, I receive it right now. Thank You for baptizing me, Holy Spirit, You are welcome in my life!
It doesn’t really matter whether you felt anything or not when you prayed to receive the Lord and His Spirit. If you believed in your heart that you received, then God’s Word promises that you did.
Mar 11:24 KJV – [24] Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].
All things considered; we need peace in the midst of our storms. Peace. When stormy seasons come, the one thing we all long for is connection and peace.
As noted above, WHEN WE NEED PEACE, call upon the PEACESPEAKER. In fact, YouWillWantTo reveals the blessings Jesus paid for > one article at a time.
