WE BELIEVE
NewsBoys
WE BELIEVE is another powerful song that brought tears to my eyes; it expresses my own personal BELIEFS. And as the pattern continues, this song reminded me of the movie GOD’s NOT DEAD 2 where the BELIEF in the lyrics sparked a court battle to defend a teacher’s RIGHT to BELIEF in her FAITH to share JESUS.
INSPIRATION
We have a lot of flavors in this record, and I think “We Believe” says, all that aside, this is who we are. This is what we believe > in God the Father, Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit, the crucifixion, He conquered death, the Resurrection, and He’s coming back again!
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
John 14:19 (The Voice): In a little while, the world will not see Me; but I will not vanish completely from your sight. Because I live, you will also live.
John 20:29(NKJV): Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
1 Corinthians 15:13-14(NKJV):But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.
1 Corinthians 15:21(NKJV): “For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.”
2 Corinthians 5:17(NKJV):“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
Romans 10:9(NKJV): That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
“We Believe” has been nominated for many awards including “Song of the Year” and “Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year” during the 46th GMA Dove Awards in 2015 and for “Worship Song of the Year” during the 47th GMA Dove Awards in 2016. The Newsboys had performed the song live during the 44th GMA Dove Awards on 15 October 2013. The song also won the KLOVE Fan Award as best song.[1]
THE POWER OF WORDS
As a matter of fact, WORDS have power to direct our thoughts. Negative words depress us. Faithful words bless us. Depress or Bless > for me and my household, we choose FAITHFUL words. And since the Holy Spirit connected Star Bice and Nancy Carey through Charis Bible College, he has also connected us to share our faith with the world through words > youwillwantto.com. The Holy Spirit speaks to us in his still small voice and the result of this week’s VOICE is this article and its related movie that combines two powerful testimonies of FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST!.
In other words, the words (lyrics) of this song will BLESS you. Without further ado, let’s start our journey of discovery of the power of the words, WE BELIEVE. But, before we proceed, I want to provide the definition of BELIEVE > accept (something) as true; feel sure of the truth of. To further clarify, the definition of TRUTH is in accordance with fact or reality.
- In this time of desperation
- When all we know is doubt and fear
- There is only one foundation
- We believe
- We believe
Isa 41:10 KJV – [10] Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
- In this broken generation
- When all is dark, You help us see
- There is only one salvation
- We believe
- We believe
Jhn 8:12 KJV – [12] Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
LIGHT AT THE END OF THE DARKNESS
THERE IS LIGHT
In fact, where there is LIGHT, there is JESUS. He is the LIGHT of the world and through his LIGHT we can live a VICTORIOUS LIFE!
WE BELIEVE IN
- God the Father
- Jesus Christ
- The Holy Spirit
2Co 13:14 KJV – [14] The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, [be] with you all. Amen.
- And He’s given us new life
- WE BELIEVE IN
- The crucifixion
- That He conquered death
- We believe in the resurrection
- And He’s comin’ back again
- We believe
2Co 5:17 KJV – [17] Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
STRENGTH COMES OUT OF WEAKNESS
As a result of answering the question, “WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?” with “I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST,” we are born again in our spirit. The flesh lives on in this earthly body, but PRAISE GOD, when this body is no more, WE HAVE LIFE ETERNAL IN THE SPIRIT in heaven!
- So, let our faith be more than anthem
- Greater than the songs we sing
- And in our weakness and temptations
- We believe
- We believe
2Co 12:9-11 KJV – [9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. [10] Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. [11] I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
WHAT IS LOST IS FOUND
- Let the lost be found and the dead be raised
- In the here and now, let love invade
- Let the church live loud, our God we’ll say
- We believe, we believe
Luk 15:10 KJV – [10] Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
- And the gates of hell will not prevail
- For the power of God, has torn the veil
- Now we know Your love will never fail
- We believe, we believe
Mat 16:18 KJV – [18] I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
The LOVE of GOD is so much more than this carnal mind can conceive. It is far greater than the love we have for our families. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. It is new every morning!!!
THE STEADFAST LOVE OF THE LORD
- We believe in God the Father, in Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit
- And He’s given us new life
- We believe in the crucifixion, that he conquered death, in the resurrection

- He’s comin’ back again
- He’s comin’ back again
- We believe
- We believe
Jhn 14:3 KJV – [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.
HE DID IT AGAIN
As a result of this statement, the inspired movie for this article is God’s NOT DEAD 2.
Middle Tennessee minister Rice Brooks wrote a bookmaking a case for believing in the Christian faith that helped inspire the successful faith film “God’s Not Dead.”
Brooks, who was the senior minister of the multi-site Bethel World Outreach Church and lives in Franklin, wrote the 2013 “God’s Not Dead: Evidence for God in an Age of Uncertainty” so believers or those seeking faith could learn a defense for Christianity. The apologetics-style book is meant to guide people through the evidence.
WHAT THE MOVIE IS ABOUT
High school history teacher Grace Wesley comes under fire for answering a student’s question about Jesus. When Grace refuses to apologize, the school board votes to suspend her and threatens to revoke her teaching certificate. Forced to stand trial to save her career, Grace hires young lawyer Tom Endler to defend her in court. Endler devises a powerful strategy to show the jury the historical significance of Wesley’s classroom discussion. The student, Brooke’s, parents were both “freethinkers” and did not believe in Jesus.
Teachers teach lessons on a particular subject. And this scene is the BASIS of the movie …
SCENE FROM THE BIBLE that inspired Grace’s response to this powerful question > WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?
JESUS OF NAZARETH – WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM (film clip)
Mat 16:13-20 KJV – [13] When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am? [14] And they said, Some [say that thou art] John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. [15] He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am? [16] Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
PETER’S RESPONSE TO JESUS’ QUESTION
[18] I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. [20] Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
THE SCENE in GOD’s NOT DEAD 2
As a result of his investigation into this BELIEF IN JESUS case he was defending, Tom asked Grace about her faith, she tells her testimony …
When we hear that still small voice speaking to our heart, it changes the path of our earthly walk toward our heavenly home. And God can use a multitude of methods. In this testimony, a SIGN outside of a church. Grace’s response to that question changed her life. Her decision, her BELIEF, AND FAITH in the name of JESUS resulted in her having to defend that BELIEF in a court of law.
HISTORICAL QUESTION
From Grace answering a HISTORICAL question in her AP HISTORY class to Brooke about Jesus, it started an avalanche against her to deny her JESUS. Including, the possible loss of a job and everything. BUT SHE DID NOT CAVE IN. And it ended up in a COURTROOM!
But her journey was not easy in the courtroom. From her own school board, and those she called friends, to the opposing attorney (all non-believers), she did not allow them to defer her from her BELIEF in JESUS. She kept her focus on JESUS and he saw her through.
POWERFUL STATEMENT Brooke responded to the JUDGE >> “I AM NOT AFRAID OF TELLING THE TRUTH. ONLY AFRAID OF NOT BEING ABLE TO TELL IT.“
In effect, WORDS have power to change the outcome. After Brooke burst into the courtroom to defend her teacher, and then the statement “NOT AT THAT MOMENT” changed her defense tactic. It opened the door for the devil to redirect the result of her testimony. “NOT AT THAT MOMENT” meant there were other moments that Grace and Brooke had a discussion about JESUS. Tom felt HE HAD LOST THE CASE. Grace felt DEFEATED and BROOKE was denied access to Grace.
BUT … JESUS INTERCEDED and the result was this outreach from the STUDENTS to Grace to encourage her to press on …
Therefore, we ENCOURAGE one another in times of trouble!!! Worship music is a powerful tool the LORD speaks through to touch our hearts!
AND THEN…
When Grace felt all was lost and she would lose everything, TOM CAME INTO THE COURTROOM LIKE A ROARING LION …. He remembered his conversation with Grace when he asked her, “ WHEN DID YOU BECOME A CHRISTIAN?”
AND THEN …
Tom used this TRUTHFUL TESTIMONY to WIN THE CASE. It PROOVED Grace’s FAITH WAS REAL AND SHE DID NOT LIE AND WOULD NOT DENY HER JESUS.
WOW! A LION STORMS THROUGH THE COURTROOM DOOR IN FULL ARMOUR AGAINST THE ENEMY. (HE LOOKS LIKE A LAWYER!!!)
JESUS HAD THE VICTORY THROUGH GRACE’S BELIEF IN HIM! HALLELUJAH AND AMEN!
