Void of Understanding
Proverbs 7 is a continuation of “The Instruction of a Father,” in Proverbs 4, 5, and 6. They all begin with, “My son.” We, the church, are not only Christ’s bride, but we are also the sons of God (Revelation 21:9, Philippians 2:15). It is our choice to listen to our Father so that we are not “void of understanding” as the young man described in Proverbs 7:7.
My Son
Notice that the Proverbs are not written to fools or young men who are void of understanding.
Why not?
Because once you start reading and listening to your Father’s voice, you are learning wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:2-6). You are choosing to be the man of God that may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
Now, you choose wisdom, instruction, and understanding for yourself. And you are learning to spot those who choose to be void of understanding by the reason of use (Hebrews 5:13-14).
Proverbs 7
My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. – Pro 7:1 KJV
Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. – Pro 7:2 KJV
Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart. – Pro 7:3 KJV
Say unto wisdom, Thou [art] my sister; and call understanding [thy] kinswoman: – Pro 7:4 KJV
That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger [which] flattereth with her words. – Pro 7:5 KJV
A Young Man Void of Understanding
Let’s remember that there is no longer male or female in Christ (Genesis 5:2, Matthew 19:4, Galatians 3:28). The stranger, the strange woman, the thief, the accuser, liar, deceiver, etc. are all antichrist or demonic. Are they people? Yes. Male and female physically. But submitted to the devil instead of God. And they are resisting God instead of the devil (James 4:7). We are not called to judge, condemn, or be angry with them. Only to believe Jesus and speak the truth in love.
Learn to Discern
For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, – Pro 7:6 KJV
And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, – Pro 7:7 KJV
How?
We can know who we are being led by and discern when others are in trouble.
Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, – Pro 7:8 KJV
In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: – Pro 7:9 KJV
First, this young man was hanging out with the simple ones aka other fools. They weren’t in church or at a church function or in school or at home (Proverbs 7:7). Then, he was on the wrong road instead of running from evil as the Bible tells us to do. He could have been watching the filth of the world on his electronic device. Either way, it was in the black and darkness. He wasn’t watching Christian television or at a tent revival singing “This Little Light of Mine.“
Here Comes the Devil!
When we put ourselves out there in the darkness consuming the sewage of the world, we are asking to be devoured by the toothless bag of hot air (1 Peter 5:8). Imagine that mangy feline wearing a nighty and lipstick bathed in perfume. Only one void of understanding would even be able to see past the ugly stank!!! But sin is subtle (Genesis 3) and alluring. Sin aka the devil makes big promises with absolutely no intention of keeping any of it past luring you into destruction (John 10:10).
And, behold, there met him a woman [with] the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart. – Pro 7:10 KJV
(She [is] loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: – Pro 7:11 KJV
Now [is she] without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) – Pro 7:12 KJV
So she caught him, and kissed him, [and] with an impudent face said unto him, – Pro 7:13 KJV
[I have] peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows. – Pro 7:14 KJV
Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. – Pro 7:15 KJV
I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved [works], with fine linen of Egypt. – Pro 7:16 KJV
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. – Pro 7:17 KJV
Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves. – Pro 7:18 KJV
For the goodman [is] not at home, he is gone a long journey: – Pro 7:19 KJV
He hath taken a bag of money with him, [and] will come home at the day appointed. – Pro 7:20 KJV
With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. – Pro 7:21 KJV
Ugly, Stinky, and Void of Understanding
This guy is saying, “I know this thing is ugly and stinks, but at least she knows it.”
The devil always mixes in just enough truth to try to make it believable.
Caused Him to Yield; Forced Him!
Proverbs 7:21 warns us that when we choose to be void of understanding by not keeping His Words in our hearts, we can be forced by mere words or suggestions!
That cheap garbage is so full of chocolate and sugar that it will taste so good and give you energy…
All you really need is a nap! A long calorie-free rest!!! You girls know what I am talking about. It chases you down like the hot fudge cake on the signs going to and from Birmingham on 65! Go home, eat a healthy meal, and get some sleep! Praise God!
Or Be Void of Understanding and Die
I have been this fool and now I have a colostomy! I take full responsibility for my own stupidity. Praise God! The good news is that we can repent and stop being stupid!!! Hallelujah! Unlike this guy that chose to be void of understanding. He goes after the bait, the stinky, rotten, smelly, garbage!!! Like a nasty animal chasing the lust of his flesh! And he chooses to die.
He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; – Pro 7:22 KJV
Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it [is] for his life. – Pro 7:23 KJV
Jesus, Cain, and Abel
In Genesis 4:7, we see God warning Cain. It was never God Almighty that was after our blood. But it has always been Him, Jesus, willing to shed His blood to save our lives from the enemy of God and God’s children.
Even after we see Cain kill Abel, God is pursuing Cain (Genesis 4:9) and giving Cain the opportunity to repent.
Our Father is always trying to instruct us with His words that there are consequences to our actions (Genesis 4:10-12).
And the fools reject and turn from our Father and His protection and His provision to go out and stay in darkness (Genesis 4:13-16).
Let’s Stop Accusing God
Notice Cain’s accusations against God (Genesis 4:13-16)! Sound like anyone you know (Revelation 12:10, Job 1:7,9, Matthew 25:24). Listen to what God tells us in Malachi 3:13 because we are deceived. What did God say about Job in Job 1:8? Satan talks better about God than a lot of Christians I know (Job 1:10).
All Power Is Given: Matthew 28:18
This post will explain more about the conversation in Job 1:11-12.
Hearken and Live!
Choose life! God has spelled it all out in His awesome written word for us to choose life!
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: – Deu 30:19 KJV
Hearken to His words and live life and that life more abundantly (John 10:10).
Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth. – Pro 7:24 KJV
Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. – Pro 7:25 KJV
For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong [men] have been slain by her. – Pro 7:26 KJV
Her house [is] the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death. – Pro 7:27 KJV
I repent from stupidity and turn to God. His ways, His thoughts, His will, His Son, His plan for me, my family, my church, and my world!!! In Jesus’ name! Amen!!! Hallelujah! woot woot!!!
