To the Children of Men
Psalm 107 has a common thread running through it that runs throughout the entire Bible. “Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men! – Psa 107:21 KJV”
I was reading Psalm 107 because the first verse on the free Healing Scriptures Confession Card from Terradez Ministries says, “I am healed and delivered (Psalm 107:20).”
Meditating on Truth
I fight the lies of the enemy, the father of lies (John 8:44, 1 Timothy 4:7), with the Truth!
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; – Eph 6:14 KJV
The Truth!
We walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
Hearing the truth of the gospel (Colossians 1:5, Ephesians 1:13), meditating on it, and believing God only (Luke 8:50, Mark 5:36) regardless of the circumstances naturally produces an attitude of praise and thanksgiving (Colossians 1:3-6, Ephesians 1:12-14).
Meditate (1 Timothy 4:15-16)
I like the “profiting” that Paul is teaching Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:15-16!
Reward–To the Children of Men!
Good things happen to the children of men when we meditate on every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Ask Isaac (Genesis 24:63,67).
Attitude of Gratitude
O give thanks unto the LORD, for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever. – Psa 107:1 KJV
We get to choose our attitude. That is not necessarily easy because we have a lot of distractions and temptations thrown at us. But, it is our choice to renew our minds to God’s lovingkindness.
Say So!
Let the redeemed of the LORD say [so], whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; – Psa 107:2 KJV
And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. – Psa 107:3 KJV
They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. – Psa 107:4 KJV
Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. – Psa 107:5 KJV
Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses. – Psa 107:6 KJV
And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. – Psa 107:7 KJV
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men! – Psa 107:8 KJV
For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. – Psa 107:9 KJV
Moses even told Pharaoh, “Be it according to your word (Exodus 8:10).” And then, “The LORD did according to the word of Moses (Exodus 8:13).” Why? Because Moses was listening to and doing what the Lord had said.
The Words of God
Why are these people sitting in darkness and death and bound in affliction?
Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, [being] bound in affliction and iron; – Psa 107:10 KJV
Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: – Psa 107:11 KJV
What does someone who rebels against the words of God and despises His counsel actually look like? God’s word tells us to love (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). When we actually think about people who are using, abusing, manipulating, etc. other people for their own gratification, we can understand this better.
It is not that God hates or wants to punish people who are rebelling against His lovingkindness. He just cannot allow them to continue hurting themselves and others.
How exactly do we hurt ourselves when we hurt other people? We reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7-8).
Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and [there was] none to help. – Psa 107:12 KJV
He Saved Them
We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). I find myself being judgmental, gossiping, and even manipulating at times. God is not mad at me! He is just waiting for me to return to Him and His ways.
Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses. – Psa 107:13 KJV
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder. – Psa 107:14 KJV
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men! – Psa 107:15 KJV
For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder. – Psa 107:16 KJV
Afflicted
The New Testament tells us that we have an enemy who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Ephesians 4:27 tells us not to “give place to the devil.” James 4:7 tells us to resist him. We become fools when we resist God and submit to the devil!
Then, on top of that, we blame God for our stupid! Have you ever said, “God is in control, and He works in mysterious ways. He gives and takes away!” I have said all of those. When I didn’t know Him! I knew of Him. Yes, I was seeking HIm. I loved Him. But I was not experiencing life eternal in this life (John 17:3, Colossians 1:13).
I Pity the Fool!
The Bible makes it clear here even in the Old Testament that we cause our own troubles when we act and talk like fools.
Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. – Psa 107:17 KJV
Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. – Psa 107:18 KJV
There is definitely a distinction to be made between old and new (Matthew 13:52):
New and Old
Why weren’t the Old Testament saints aware of the devil?
Because they didn’t have the authority and the power to fight him like we do.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. – Eph 6:11 KJV
We get most of the names of the enemy tied together in Revelation 12:9 and again in Revelation 20:2.
- The word “devil” isn’t recorded in the Bible at all until Matthew 4:1.
- “Devils” is recorded 55 times. Four times in the Old Testament.
- “Satan” is mentioned only 19 times in the Old Testament out of the 56 total times.
- “Dragon” is recorded six times in the Old Testament and the other 13 times are in the book of Revelation for a total of 19 times in the whole Bible.
- “Serpent” is recorded 39 times throughout the entire Bible.
Whose Distresses?
No matter how stupid we can be, God is always with us just waiting for us to cry out to Him. He is ready and willing to save us out of our own mess aka our own distresses!
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses. – Psa 107:19 KJV
Healing IS Here to the Children of Men!
Healing is one area that we are tempted to believe our physical condition (walk by sight) instead of believing what the Word of God says (walk by faith)!
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered [them] from their destructions. – Psa 107:20 KJV
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men! – Psa 107:21 KJV
What does His word have to do with healing?
When we meditate on His Word and all of the Scripture that says that we are already healed. His Word says that healing is also provided in the atonement. The finished work of Christ on the cross includes complete (sozo) healing and restoration!
The Sacrifices of Thanksgiving
Sometimes giving thanks and declaring His works with rejoicing can feel like a sacrifice. I remember several occasions that felt like all hell was breaking loose. Praising God through the tears knowing that His Word I was believing was not what my circumstances were screaming at me!
It really doesn’t seem like that would be very important but those are the most amazing almost instant breakthroughs that I have experienced.
And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. – Psa 107:22 KJV
He Brings Them Out of Their Distresses
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; – Psa 107:23 KJV
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. – Psa 107:24 KJV
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. – Psa 107:25 KJV
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. – Psa 107:26 KJV
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. – Psa 107:27 KJV
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. – Psa 107:28 KJV
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. – Psa 107:29 KJV
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. – Psa 107:30 KJV
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men! – Psa 107:31 KJV
Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. – Psa 107:32 KJV
He is Amazing to the Children of Men
He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground; – Psa 107:33 KJV
A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. – Psa 107:34 KJV
He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. – Psa 107:35 KJV
And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation; – Psa 107:36 KJV
And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase. – Psa 107:37 KJV
He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease. – Psa 107:38 KJV
Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow. – Psa 107:39 KJV
He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, [where there is] no way. – Psa 107:40 KJV
Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh [him] families like a flock. – Psa 107:41 KJV
Shut Yo Mouth!
Let the redeemed say so (Psalm 107:2)! He has already redeemed us from the enemy! That is anything that comes to steal, kill, and destroy!!!
The righteous will see it and rejoice! All iniquity that says “seeing is believing” shall shut her mouth when we say, “We believe God and we receive (Mark 11:24) all of God’s promises (2 Corinthians 1:20)! Amen!
The righteous shall see [it], and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. – Psa 107:42 KJV
Abide Among the Wise
Whoso [is] wise, and will observe these [things], even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD. – Psa 107:43 KJV
His Wonderful Works are to the Children of Men!
The more we get to know God, the more we will want to! Amen!
