The Power of His Might

The Power of His Might

Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” Paul also reminds us in 2 Timothy 3:5, to “turn away from those who have a form of godliness but deny the power.”

Praying in the Spirit

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; – Eph 6:18 KJV

How is it possible to pray always for ALL saints with ALL prayer?

In the Spirit.

Why would anyone intentionally deny God’s power? Because some religions have made the Holy Spirit kooky and weird! Ephesians 6:11 tells us who is behind that too.

The Holy Spirit is not kooky or weird.

He is God!

Walking in the Spirit is walking in the power of His might.

In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul explains the proper place for praying in tongues. He especially explains in 1 Corinthians 14:18-19, 23 why it is important not to come together in church and speak in tongues unless the interpretation is given (1 Corinthians 14:5).

Because many have not studied the instruction plainly given in the Bible, they have turned others off from receiving the power from on high for themselves. And they have gone even further to use this gift of praying in tongues to prove something to man instead of allowing God’s Holy Spirit to freely flow through them in praying for all saints and praying all prayers.

Power From On High

In Luke 11:13, Jesus tells us that our heavenly Father is eager to give the Holy Spirit to His children who ask. Why do we need to ask? Because God is not going to force Himself or any of His goodness on anyone. But He has provided every good and perfect gift for us to freely receive if we are willing.

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. – Luk 24:49 KJV

Never Forgiveness?

In Mark 3:28, Jesus explains that all sins and blasphemies shall be forgiven. And then, He says the following:

But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: – Mar 3:29 KJV

They had accused Jesus of having an unclean spirit (Mark 3:30).

The Baptism with the Holy Ghost

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:1 that he would not have us ignorant concerning spiritual gifts. And that the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal (1 Corinthians 12:7).

And, being assembled together with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard of me. – Act 1:4 KJV
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. – Act 1:5 KJV

Be Filled

Paul also tells us to be filled with the Spirit in Ephesians 5:18. Again, God is not forcing Himself or His precious gifts and promises on anyone. But they are ours for the taking. We get to ask to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and to be filled with the Spirit.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. – Act 2:4 KJV

For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth [him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. – 1Co 14:2 KJV

The Power of His Might

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. – Eph 6:10 KJV

As with most of the Scripture, if we will just keep reading, the author tells us “why?” and “how?”

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. – Eph 6:11 KJV

How can we be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might? By putting on the whole armor of God.

Why is this important? Because we want to be able to confidently stand against the wiles of the devil!

Are We Wrestling?

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. – Eph 6:12 KJV

Yes! We have been warned by our Lord multiple times that we will have trials and tribulations in this world. Why? Because the world hates Jesus and they will hate His church.

But we are not wrestling with the people who are submitted to this world’s system (flesh and blood). But against principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in high places.

From the Power of His Might

And we get to do this from a higher perspective. We get to fight with the power of His might! Jesus came and stripped the enemy of his power, authority, and dominion. Find out more by reading, “All Power Is Given.

Stand in the Power of His Might

It is up to us to take the whole armor of God. Again, God has already made all of this available to us for the taking. God wants us to be able to withstand

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. – Eph 6:13 KJV

Truth and Righteousness

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; – Eph 6:14 KJV

The Truth

God’s Word is the truth (John 1:1-5, 14, 17). When we walk by faith in what the Word of God says over anything our physical five senses tell us, then we have our loins girt about with truth (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Faith doesn’t come by hearing the latest doctrine or what people are saying about God. Faith comes specifically by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

In John 8:32 Jesus says that knowing the truth sets us free. He also says in John 14:6 that He is the truth and the only way to the Father.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says that we are God’s righteousness in Christ Jesus! God’s righteousness far exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees!

For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. – Mat 5:20 KJV

2 Corinthians 5:17 and Galatians 6:15 tell us that we have been made new in Christ Jesus. A good understanding of spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23) sheds light on our made-perfect, born-again spirit.

Tell the Good News

Luke 2:10 and Romans 10:15 express that we have good tidings of great joy to share with the world. This is no less fantastic news now than it was then!

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; – Eph 6:15 KJV

We are not supposed to be wrapped up in sin consciousness the way many are today. God’s goodness is what leads to repentance (Romans 2:4). Not our pet peeves or pet sins. Don’t be deceived. If you are judging others, you are putting yourself under the law also and are guilty of the same things (Romans 2).

So, let us be prepared to share the good news. Let’s pray for others in the power of His might. And forgive as we have been forgiven.

Freely Give

We are going to freely give as we freely receive (Matthew 10:8).

Are you freely receiving guilt, shame, condemnation, and judgment that come to steal, kill, and destroy?

Or are you freely receiving love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faith, mercy, grace, goodness, aka life and life more abundantly?

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly. – Jhn 10:10 KJV

The Shield of Faith

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. – Eph 6:16 KJV

Great things happen when you pair faith and the power of His might, the Holy Spirit (Acts 6:5, 8, 11:24).

“faith” occurs 247 times in 231 verses in the KJV.

BlueLetterBible.org

Only two of these 231 verses are in the Old Testament.

1 John 5:18-19 explains that when we “keep ourselves” (take the shield of faith), the wicked one cannot touch us! John also explains that the whole world lies in wickedness. We apparently need the shield of faith because that is a lot of fiery darts.

Then, in 1 John 5:20, John tells us something profound. Not only can we know Jesus intimately now, but John agrees with Jesus’ statement in John 17:3. Knowing Him is life eternal. Now!

Knowing God and knowing His Word is the foundation of having great faith. That is the definition of building your house on the rock. All the trials and tribulations of the world may come against you. All the fiery darts of the wicked may be flying all around you. But nothing can shake what is built on that rock foundation (Luke 6:48).

Helmet and Sword

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: – Eph 6:17 KJV

Helmet of Salvation

“salvation” occurs 164 times in 158 verses in the KJV.

BlueLetterBible.org

That isn’t including “save” and “saved” which occur “347 times in 336 verses in the KJV.”

Jesus says in John 3:17 that He came to save the whole world. No matter what happens in this life, in this world, we know what our future holds. That “knowing” is a protection for our minds.

Paul addresses the foolishness of hoping in Christ only for this life in 1 Corinthians 15:19.

In Luke 10:20, Jesus makes it clear that our names being written in heaven, salvation, is more important than anything going on in this world, even that the spirits are subject to us or under our authority.

Appointed by God to Obtain Salvation

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. – 1Th 5:8 KJV

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, – 1Th 5:9 KJV

Faith in the Word of God is the substance of things hoped for (Hebrews 11:1). God has appointed us to obtain salvation, not wrath! We can receive salvation or reject it. But we cannot earn it or accidentally lose it.

How to Have Life Eternal

Sword of the Spirit

Ephesians 6:17 tells us that the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. Jesus gives us a perfect example of how to use our sword of the Spirit. He slices and dices the enemy’s temptations in the wilderness with “It is written (Matthew 4:4, 7, 10).”

But then the devil actually tries to use the Scripture as a weapon against Jesus (Matthew 4:6)! We must know the Word, Jesus, intimately to be able to stand against the wiles of the devil!

Just as he twisted the Word of God with Eve in the garden, “Did God really say…? (Genesis 3)” He is still using the same old tricks now.

The enemy comes at us in our weakest moments promising to fulfill our greatest needs or desires if we will just serve ourselves and the lusts of our flesh instead of trusting God and His Word. It almost always seems so innocent and absolutely justifiable. Destruction!

Choose to Walk in the Power of His Might!

The enemy wants us to use God’s Word against people (including ourselves) rather than the way Jesus used it. The sword of the Spirit is meant to fight against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).

We are not using the Word of God to slice and dice people! Unless that is what is called for which is mostly the exception (Romans 3:19). God has written His law on our hearts (Romans 2:15).

People who are drowning in an ocean of sin, shame, guilt, regret, etc. don’t need us to describe the water for them. They need for us to throw them a rope of hope. We need to use the Word of God our sword of the Spirit to defend people and rescue them. We need to use it to destroy the works of the enemy, the thief who only comes to steal, kill, and to destroy (John 10:10).

The Power of His Might

Let’s go into all the world and preach the gospel (Mark 16:15). It is the “almost too good to be true” news! Let’s learn all that Jesus taught us and teach all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).

You will want to walk in the power of His might, in the Spirit.
