I CHOOSE CHRIST
I CHOOSE CHRIST is a powerful statement! It declares to the WORLD our decision to FOLLOW JESUS; the ONE who gave HIS LIVE FOR ME.
Written by Sue C. Smith, Gerald Crabb & Jason Cox/arr. David T. Clydesdale – Brentwood-Benson Publishing, it is a powerful song of testimony. When we find ourselves in a place of despair, with no hope in sight, it is there that Christ works all things for our good.
Therefore, CHOOSE is a word that changes lives. What we CHOOSE can bless or curse, bring happiness or despair. But, when we CHOOSE CHRIST, it not only changes our lives; it TRANSFORMS our lives.
WORD MEANINGS
In fact, word meanings are important to me. As I listened to this song, my heart JUMPED for joy at the meaning of CHOOSE. A decision to pick out or select (someone or something) as being the best or most appropriate of two or more alternatives. WOW!
When we CHOOSE CHRIST, we chose the BEST! For the Christian, the alternative is NOT GOOD! That choice is out to STEAL, KILL and DESTROY.
Jhn 10:10 KJV – [10] The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.
And, TRANSFORMS means to make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of. The keyword here is CHARACTER > the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. WORDS are like a tapestry that reveals a NEW HEART for CHRiST.
With these definitions in mind, let’s venture into the lyrics of this POWERFUL SONG.
WORK FOR GOOD
- It was not the path I would have chosen
- I could see no hope from where I stood
- Even though I knew what God had promised
- I didn’t see how he could work it for my good
Rom 8:28 KJV – [28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.
CAST THY BURDEN UPON THE LORD
- Yet that road where pain was my companion
- Took me to an unexpected place
- And standing in the middle of the darkness
- That was where my heart would learn to say:
Psa 55:22 KJV – [22] Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
WORDS WRITTEN AND SUNG FROM THE HEART
- I choose Christ when everything around me says give up
- Faith and trust
- To believe he is good
- He’ll come through like he said he would
Heb 11:1 KJV – [1] Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Heb 11:6 KJV – [6] But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him
Pro 3:5-6 KJV – [5] Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Every time, oh I choose Christ.
To point out, CHOICE gives options. We can decide to follow Jesus or the devil. The ultimate choice is ours. Jesus WANTS all to choose him, BUT, he gave us free choice. He provides the results of both choices. Follow Jesus > spend eternity with Him in heaven where there is no suffering, no pain just peace and joy.
Whereas, Follow the devil > spend eternity in the lake of fire where there is endless suffering and pain.
To clarify, even our human mind can differentiate between the two options, but when the heart is hardened, it makes the wrong choice.
Therefore, choosing Christ is an individual decision. Your mom, dad, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, son, daughter, niece, nephew, friend, etc. cannot make the decision for you! OH BUT when you do > LOOK OUT. God’s LOVE will transform your life! When you follow HIS PLANS, your life will never be the same.
I KNOW THE PLANS
- I don’t know the story he’s unfolding
- But, I know in his will, he has a plan
SURRENDER ALL
- So every day my prayer is to surrender
- Even when it’s hard to understand
Mat 11:28 KJV – [28] Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT
- His grace is sufficient, whatever happens in my life
- I’ve made my decision no matter what the price
2Co 12:9 KJV – [9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIDENT FOR ME
“I’ve made my decision no matter what the price” is a powerful declaration. It will alienate you from family, friends, co-workers, etc. BUT his grace will be sufficient when it happens. When we turn our eyes and look upon Jesus, HE will comfort us and give us the strength to endure.
In fact, we know the end of the story of our decision to CHOOSE CHRIST.
HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR ME
Every time, oh I choose Christ.
I believe he is good,
He’ll come through like he said he would
Every time, oh I choose Christ…
I choose Christ…
I choose Christ…
ALL THINGS CONSIDERED
All things considered; this POWERFUL SONG creates a VISION of why we choose CHRIST. The Holy Spirit led me to this song, as he has done with all songs. As I consider the millions of songs on youtube, I am WOW’d at the ones The Holy Spirit leads me to share. It is as if they are a hidden gem awaiting another path to share the GOSPEL.
Not only are they worship songs, but they are also Bible lessons. The writer was inspired to pen the words because of scripture. As you know by now, I connect their lyrics to scripture that enhances the lyrics and then link those lyrics and scripture to another worship song.
GOD USES ALL OF US
In other words, GOD uses ALL OF US, all our TALENTS to share the GOSPEL. The combination of lyrics, music, and scripture create an INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL TAPESTRY of the LOVE OF GOD for HIS children.
In fact, one of my favorite lines is “He’ll come through like he said he would.’ Halleluiah and Amen!
In the final analysis, Jesus died for us and left behind PROMISES that He’ll come through like he said he would. All we have to do is CHOOSE CHRIST as our Lord and Savior.
IN SUMMARY
With this in mind, God commands us to believe in Christ. He is pleased by those who choose Christ.
As noted above, EVEN WHEN IT’S HARD TO UNDERSTAND. In fact, YouWillWantTo reveals the blessings Jesus paid for > one article at a time.
