A Living Sacrifice
I knew nothing about being a living sacrifice.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. [Rom 12:1 KJV]
The Bible, along with God, were both mysterious to me. Years of wondering and praying to an unknown God produced more confusion.
My Grandmother told me that God would protect me during the storms. I didn’t know Him or how to understand Him. And I trusted and believed my Grandmother, but then I witnessed many people hurting, dying, and broken.
Where Was God for Them?
Now I know without a doubt that God is waiting for us.
What?
Are we talking about the same God? The Creator God? The One people say we should be still and wait on?
Be still, and know that I [am] God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. [Psa 46:10 KJV]
The Unlimited Promises of God
Yes! His name is Jesus, and He has already come to the earth to save every human being from death, theft, and destruction. As New Testament believers, we have a better covenant (Hebrews 8:6).
Why Are You Crying?
Moses is the author of Exodus. In Exodus 14:13-14, he writes of his impressive speech telling the Israelites to “fear not, stand still, and see the LORD save us. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
Wow! That is awesome. And, it is true and was true! God had told Moses in Exodus 14:1-4 exactly what was going to happen. If the Israelites had known the whole story before it happened like we do today, they could have been laughing at the enemy instead of being sore afraid (Exodus 14:10).
But, what does God say right after Moses finally tells the Israelites what God told him? Moses writes the following:
And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: [Exo 14:15 KJV]
Why didn’t Moses tell them what God told him before the enemy came? I don’t understand why Moses waited until they were crying out to God to give them his revelation from God.
We don’t have to wait until the doctors say there is no hope to cry out to God and receive His instruction. Don’t wait until your bank account is telling you there is no money to pay bills or buy groceries more or less to tithe.
You don’t have to wait for your pastor, friend, or me to tell you what God wants you to know right now! God wants you to be prepared for battle before the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy you and yours.
Jesus came for us to walk in prosperity and health while we receive a prosperous soul (3 John 1:2).
How? And what do I do right now since I am already stuck between this rock and this hard place?
Cry Out!
But God answers us when we cry out to Him. God told Moses exactly what to do!
Divide the Sea
Can you imagine God telling you to divide a sea? Thankfully, God will never tell you to do something so huge without telling you exactly how to do it.
But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry [ground] through the midst of the sea. [Exo 14:16 KJV]
God had built a relationship with Moses from the burning bush until this point (Exodus 3:2-3:4).
God will meet you where you are and give you specific instructions according to His good plan that He has specifically designed for YOU! That is why it is imperative to spend quiet one-on-one time with Him for yourself. And, that is why you have to stop trying to be God for yourself and others!
We all have good intentions and want to help each other. But, that can be the worst thing we can do sometimes. How do I know when God is instructing me to help someone else? And, how do I know when God is trying to speak to me through someone else? Those are two very good questions that we all need to know the answers to.
Learn to Discern
Hebrews 5:14 tells us that we will learn to discern by practicing! Doctors practice. Lawyers practice. Christians have to be willing to practice. Those who don’t do anything are the only ones who don’t make mistakes. And these are the biggest mouths to point out mistakes in others.
I want to be hearing and doing the works of the LORD! And I know you do too. That’s why you are reading a post on a Christian website. You are diligently seeking God. And He and all of heaven are so excited for you!
A Living Sacrifice
So, how do I do Romans 12:1? That was my question before I read on to the following verse:
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. [Rom 12:2 KJV]
Not only can we know the will of God, but we can prove it by allowing His Word to transform our lives!
