I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGHENETH ME made the tears flow. There are many versions of this song on youtube.com to choose from relating to this verse. For this reason, important to realize, this version includes associated scriptures that created this masterpiece. In effect, the visual displays of the associated scriptures touched my emotions. Hence, the reason I selected this version.

INSPIRATION

Needless to say, the title says it all … Philippians 4:13

[Phl 4:13 KJV] 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. 

What does STRENGTHENETH mean? To make strong or stronger; add strength to, either physical, legal or moral.

Thus, strengtheneth includes physical, legal and moral. This definition opened my eyes to see the PHYSICAL and MORAL connections. The word moral is applicable to actions that are good or evil, virtuous or vicious. In essence, when we think of STRENGTHENETH, we automatically think of the physical. As a result of this new knowledge we will think about it in relationship to our morals!!!

Not only did the word STRENGTHENETH pop off the page at me, so did the word THROUGH. Accord to the GREEK translation, THROUGH is an Ancient Greek word used in the Bible, the exact meaning of which is debated by scholars but is generally translated as “authority“.

OK … now I have a better revelation of the FULL meaning of this scripture.  It is by Jesus’ AUTHORITY that we have the strength to endure any, and all, attacks of the enemy!  Hallelujah and Amen.

For this reason, I suggest you put your name into the scriptures because it is GOD talking directly to you. You are in HIS classroom, and you are HIS ONLY STUDENT. WOW!  A key point to remember, it is PERSONAL attention from the MASTER.

What can I say but > WOW! Once again, God knew what I needed to share before I knew this song and movie that were already created for a time such as this.

To emphasize why his movie, and the many I have already shared, touch my heart so deeply is personal. In addition to the title of AUTHOR for youwillwantto.com, I am also a STUDENT at Charis Bible College and, by day, a Senior Living Advisor (Independent, Assisted, Memory Care) and a lifelong Disability Advocate (sister with Cerebral Palsy and my husband’s brother with Cerebral Palsy). 

As a result of thee titles, movies of those less fortunate who OVERCOME their disabilities (physical / emotional / mental) remind me that THEY SEE THEIR ABILITIES and not their disabilities. We need to remember this; a MESSAGE EVERYONE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND TODAY.

I AM POTENTIAL is a true story of a child born without eyes and with joints that did not properly form. Therefore, HE COULD NOT SEE nor could he WALK. Two blessings we take for granted. Patrick is blind and forced to use a wheelchair. His parents, however, did not allow his disabilities to stop him from achieving his dream of joining the marching band.

Let me set the scene for you …

Patrick John Hughes (father) was in Sports Advertising but also played the piano! Patrick John (father) dreamed of having an ALL-STAR SON to brag about. With the reality of that not happening, he had to do some deep soul searching.  And GOD opened the door for a blessing.

While his wife was having dinner with a friend, he was left at home with Patrick. As he was trying to CALM him from crying, GOD OPENED THE DOOR. As he reached for something on top of the piano, he accidently hit the keys. WOW!! The miracle happened. Patrick STOPPED CRYING. So, he placed a pillow on top of the piano and started to play. And Patrick fell asleep. He did not know if it was the sound, or the vibration of the keys that worked!  

THE REVELATION

The next day, as the father was in the nursery looking at the FOOTBALL, GOD SPOKE TO HIM. When his wife came to the door, he turned around and said …

That moment in time bonded FATHER and SON! As a toddler, Patrick Henry learned how to play the piano by EAR. Whatever his father played, he would play > PERFECTLY.

When I play MUSIC, everything changes. I feel the music moving through me; like I am swimming in water, feeling lighter. 

Although he could not SEE or WALK, Patrick was perfect in every other way.

FROM PIANO TO TRUMPET

Patrick’s love for music prompted him to record the MARCHING BAND music on TV on Easter Sunday while the family was awaiting the EASTER dinner. That very day, he had an unfortunate (or, life changing) accident. Patrick fell from a swing and fractured his leg which resulted in a cast. You can’t sit in front of a piano with a cast.  

AND THEN… as his FRIEND wheeled him through the halls at school, they stopped at a POSTER on the wall about auditioning for the MARCHING BAND.  The thought (seed) was planted in his heart. He realized he wanted to continue with his music, but could not play the violin or guitar because he arms were too short, but HE COULD PLAY THE TRUMPET.

REVELATION TO REALIZATION

That ‘still small voice” that spoke the word, TRUMPET, opened the door of POTENTIAL for the rest of his life!  He was blessed with exceptional musical talent—able to play the piano as a toddler and now, and became a nationally known pianist, singer, and trumpeter who has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and the Kennedy Center. Currently he’s a member of his college marching band, playing while his devoted father pushes him in his wheelchair. With determined optimism and courage, he has made “I am potential” his mantra and defied the impossible at every turn.

In fact,  Patrick Henry was usually a straight ‘A’ student, having received only 3 ‘B’s’ during his entire primary/secondary educational experience and graduated from the Univ. of Louisville magna cum laude  in 2010. Patrick was a Spanish language major and speaks Spanish fluently. 

BACK TO THE DAD

Patrick John made a life changing decision regarding his family, specifically, his son. He declined a promotion (20 years on the job), so he could PUSH Patrick as he performed in his COLLEGE MARCHING BAND. A decision that changed the families lives forever. From the BOOK to the MOVIE to being invited to FAMILY FEUD to EXTREME MAKEOVER, this FAMILY united behind this child born with NO EYES and NO ABILITY TO WALK.

IN SUMMARY

I AM POTENTIAL are three words we all need to realize. As shown above, regardless of our disabilities (and they can be more then physical!!!!), we have the POTENTIAL to be ALL GOD WANTS US TO BE!

We are not clones or cookie-cutter CHILDREN OF GOD. Therefore, we are SPECIAL. GOD KNEW US BEFORE WE WERE BORN AND HE PLACED SPECIAL GIFTS AND TALENTS IN US!!!

IN THE FINAL ANALYSIS, The question is, “ARE WE USING THEM TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY?????????”
